Steve Brosnihan has been the Resident Cartoonist at Hasbro Children’s Hospital since 1991. His cartooning career began shortly after his graduation from Dartmouth College when he gained two illustrious mentors: Don Bousquet and Theodor Seuss Geisel. Since 1985 his cartoons have appeared in multiple Rhode Island newspapers as well as national magazines. He created the popular “Rhode Island…can be puzzling” series of drawings and is the author of “Anyone Can Draw Cartoonagrams,” a how-to-draw book that teaches a method of cartooning he created that employs letters of the alphabet and hint words. Steve is the Creator/Conductor of Good Night Lights, a volunteer community project that involves flashing lights towards, and for, Hasbro Children’s Hospital in support of patients, families and caregivers. The project, which began publicly in 2015, has gained national attention and isnow regarded as a Rhode Island tradition. Beyond the display that occursnightly from 8:30-8:35, Good Night Lights also includes an installation ofinteractive, reflective tape art—Good Night Light-ups—that is seen andappreciated in windows of buildings surrounding Hasbro Children’s Hospitalevery night. Since 2005, Steve has been a volunteer at The Hole In The Wall GangCamp in Ashford, CT where he is regarded as the “Cartoon Guru.” He alsoteaches year-round at the Spurwink School in Lincoln, RI, where he usesCartoonagrams to support the academic curriculum. A strong supporter of organ donation, Steve includes the message “Be AnOrgan Donor” with all of his published work. He has enjoyed over thirtyyears of association with The Tomorrow Fund for Children with Cancer, alocal non-profit that sponsors the majority of Steve’s visits at HasbroChildren’s Hospital and claims the role of “Powering” the Good Night Lights project.
